Ultima Thule
During January and February 2009 on the isolated coast of Bolus Head,
C. Morey de Morand, walked, sketched, dreamt, immersed in this magnificent, desolate place.
At the last moments of daylight at the top of a hill, sometimes in a howling gale,
pouring rain, snow or with the half light of dawn, embracing contact with nature,
the unknown, the weather.
The initial ‘on site’ impact is rediscovered in the studio when these
ongoing images evolve into highly specific to the place, explorations.
Using an infinite elegant abstract vocabulary of colour,
evocative shapes and materials,
imaginatively unique, out of this world,
translations of the Ultima Thule that is Cill Rialaig, are forming.
